WHO IS THE MAN IN THIS PORTRAIT?
Students often ask who is in the portrait on the library wall.
This gentleman is Mr Edward (Ted) Cottle. He was a pioneer farmer who owned land along Moonshine Road. In the 1920s he donated a gift of land to the Education Board, and on this land the first Trentham School classrooms were built. In 1946 his son, Mr G. H. Cottle, donated 2 acres of extra land to the school.
Mr Cottle is known as "the Father of Trentham School" because of his generosity and his interest in giving Trentham children their own school. He would be delighted to know we now have a well-stocked library and a computer suite on the land where those early classrooms were built. Today, his smiling face looks down at all the students enjoying learning at Trentham School.
If you want to find out more about Trentham School's early days, check out

in our library's reference section.
