Thinking about coming to Trentham School...

What should you do?

Trentham School has an enrolment scheme in place. You can find information on our zone below.

An enrolment pack can be obtained from the school office. Please complete your child's enrolment online using this online form.

We can help you with enrolments at 9.30am or 10.50am Monday to Friday. A staff member will meet with you to go through the enrolment pack, answer any questions you may have, and take you for a look around the school.

Before your child can be enrolled the school requires you to bring your child’s:

  • Birth certificate or passport (Ministry of Education requirement)
  • Immunisation certificate
  • Proof of residence of a property within the home zone

Enrolling Five Year Old New Entrants

We welcome the enrolment of your child at any time, however to help with our planning, we encourage you to enrol your child by their 4th birthday.

To help your child settle into school we have a transition to school programme. This involves classroom and Sunflower Club visits for six weeks prior to your child starting school. Sunflower Club is a preschool club aimed to give enrolled four year olds a head start in settling into school during the six weeks they are making class visits. Parents will receive our Transition to School booklet at their first class visit.

Older Children

If you are transferring to Trentham School from another school within New Zealand, please contact the school office as soon as possible and arrange a time to come to the school office to complete the school’s enrolment form. This will also be an opportunity to discuss your child’s needs so that the class placement can be the most appropriate for your child.

New Migrant Students

If you have arrived in New Zealand and wish to enrol at Trentham School please contact us as soon as possible. We will require you to complete the same enrolment documentation as all other students. In addition, students must supply verification documents. These may include a valid student visa/permit or parent’s passport with a valid work permit.

Our Enrolment Scheme

Image

In order to avoid overcrowding or the likelihood of overcrowding, the board of Trentham Primary School has adopted an enrolment scheme which has been approved by the Ministry of Education.

Under this scheme, students will be enrolled if they live within the home zone. The enrolment scheme, which includes a precise description of the home zone, may be viewed here or at the school office, where copies of the scheme are also available.

The enrolment of out of zone students is governed by the provisions of the Education Act 1989. Enrolment of Out of Zone students is strictly managed in accordance with the Act and therefore must be approved by the Board. Priority is given to siblings and a ballot process will occur when spaces allow.

If you live in the home zone and have not yet signalled your intention to enrol your child later this year, then please contact the school immediately to assist us in our planning.

Enrolment Scheme - Effective 11 February 2019

All students who live within the home zone described below shall be entitled to enrol at Trentham School.

Proof of residence of a property within the home zone will be required (for example a copy of a utility bill with the name of a parent or guardian and an address within the home zone, covering the date of enrolment or earlier).

Where a property has two or more entrances on different streets, or where the actual address of a property is in dispute, only the rateable address as recognised by the local City Council will be considered to determine if the property is in or out of zone.

Out of Zone Enrolments:

Each year the board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

First Priority: This priority category is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary.

Second Priority: Will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.

Third Priority: Will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.

Fourth Priority: Will be given to applicants who are children of former students.

Fifth Priority: Will be given to applicants who are either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.

Sixth Priority: Will be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. Applicants seeking second or third priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.
